HOW TO PACK FRAGILE ITEMS FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
Glassware, ceramics, electronics, handicrafts and statues all need extra care when they travel thousands of kilometres. Good packing is the single best way to make sure fragile items arrive in one piece.
Step 1: Choose a strong box
Use a new, double-walled corrugated box. Old boxes lose strength each time they are used. Leave about 5–6 cm of space on every side for cushioning.
Step 2: Wrap every item individually
Wrap each piece in at least two layers of bubble wrap, paying extra attention to corners, handles and edges. Fill hollow items such as vases or cups with paper.
Step 3: Cushion and fill the gaps
Put a layer of cushioning at the bottom of the box, place the items in the centre and fill all remaining space with bubble wrap, foam or crumpled paper. Nothing should move when you gently shake the box.
Step 4: Seal and label
- Seal all seams with strong packing tape using the “H” method
- Add “FRAGILE” and “This Side Up” labels on several sides
- Write the sender and receiver details clearly, including phone numbers
Step 5: Consider insurance
For valuable or delicate goods, cargo insurance gives you peace of mind if something goes wrong in transit.
